Golf Channel has a new competition series coming this summer, and a new host to help bring it into our homes. The series is called Altered Course, and the host is Kristen Kenney.
The series will be Kenney's debut on the Golf Channel, but she's a veteran sports broadcaster. She is currently the pit reporter for the Red Bull Global RallyCross series on NBC and NBCSN.
What is the show about? Kenney explains the concept herself in one of her Instagram photos, which shows her racing after competitors (and her crew racing after her):
Altered Course pits 2-person teams who must showcase their physical fitness as well as their golf prowess. They race against the clock while trying to beat other teams' golf scores, playing across multiple normal golf holes that have been combined into one monster hole.
The series will air on Golf Channel in Summer 2015.
Kristen was a Division I soccer player at Elon University in North Carolina, where she studied broadcast journalism. She later earned a degree in Communications from the University of Miami. She became a correspondent at the Orlando PBS station, and in 2007 was featured in the documentary Tanzania A Journey Within. While in Africa Kristen nearly died from malaria, but the experience led her to found the non-profit Malaika (angel) For Life. That organization provides malaria treatments in Africa.
Kinney later joined Fox Sports Next in Washington, D.C., then took part in covering the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She has also covered the World University Games for ESPNU and college basketball on the CBS Sports Network.
