Krista Bakker

Krista Bakker is a 20-year-old rookie on the Ladies European Tour. She was born in Espoo, Finland, but spent her teen years in Amsterdam, Netherlands. She has both Finnish and Dutch citizenship.

She got her start in golf at age 8, working with her father - a golf instructor - during the Finnish summers. She played on the Dutch national golf team during her early teens, but for the third-place Finland team at the Espirito Santo Trophy in 2012. Today, Krista plays under the Finnish flag.

One of her best achievements as an amateur was her third-place finish at the 2013 European Championship. Bakker turned pro after winning one of the LET's Q-School pre-qualifiers, and then finishing in the Top 30 in the Q-School proper at the end of 2013.

After her Q-School pre-qualifying win, Bakker was interviewed for the LET website, which asked her to describe her game. She replied:

"I think my driver is pretty good. I hit it far enough, not much, but it is always on the fairway. In total it is around 230 meters far. My putting is pretty constant, with an average of 29 putts."

And areas she needs to work on?

"My short game, I would need to improve my chipping and pitching. ... It needs to get better."

So far in the 2014 LET season, Krista has gotten into nine tournaments and made the cut in five of them, including a pair of Top 15 finishes. Her first cut was at the Turkish Ladies Airlines Open and she finished 15th. In her next LET start, she improved to a 9th-place finish at the Deloitte Ladies Open.

It gets cold, very, very cold, in Finland ...

... so how does Krista keep her game sharp during the winter?

"I normally go to Spain, Costa Ballena and Arcos Gardens. ... We normally go in March and also in November. In Finland we practice inside, with the Trackman."

Not a bad life, being a European tour pro.

LPGA Golfers Enjoy the Bahamas Beachside and Poolside

Social media gives us a glimpse into the lives of professional golfers the likes of which we could never have gotten a mere 10 years ago. One word tells you all you need to know: "selfie." And when LPGA players visit a tournament site such as, say the Bahamas, selfies sometimes involve bikinis and other swimsuits. The LPGA Tour plays this week at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic. They are staying at the Atlantis Resort, which has a bevy of pools and other water features for them to enjoy; and are also right on the beach. Make that "beaches," since the resort is surrounded by sand and ocean, too. Below are a few of the swimsuit selfies LPGA golfers have shared on their social media accounts this week. First, Danielle Kang: Here are two showing Hee Young Park (left) and her sister Ju Young Park. Ju Young is an LPGA rookie in 2015.
