Paula Creamer Gets the Spirit

paula creamer pictures

Isn't Paula Creamer a little young to be captaining a United States team in an international team golf competition? No! No she's not! I can say that unequivocally because, in fact, this week Paula is captaining such a team - the American squad in the The Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship.

The Spirit is played annually at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas. This year 20 countries are represented, each sending two amateur men and two amateur women. Individual winners are crowned, but so are Team Champions (combined scores of a team's men and women) along with Women's Team and Men's Team champions.

Creamer was 17 when she played in the 2003 Spirit; she's 23 now as the captain. On her American team are Alexis Thompson, Jennifer Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Ben Martin.

Among the players who've caught The Spirit in the past are Lorena Ochoa, Minea Blomqvist, Na Yeon Choi, Paige Mackenzie, Jane Park, Hee Young Park and Yani Tseng. And lots of guys who are now notable pros, too. Pretty impressive for a tournament that has only been around since 2001.

By the way, the photo above of Creamer is from one of her past calendars for Golf Digest Japan. See more Paula Creamer pics here to view others.

Why There's a 6 at the End of Jeongeun Lee's Name

Should we say that Jeongeun Lee possesses quite a bit of ... six appeal? If you follow women's golf and, specifically, check the scores of tournaments, then you have noticed something odd. In scores, Korean golfer Jeongeun Lee's name often includes the number "6." It appears in the scores as Jeongeun Lee6, for example. Or, sometimes, as Jeongeun6 Lee.

Hyunju Yoo (Hyeonjoo Ryu): Newest Glamour Girl of the KLPGA

First, let's clear up why we've listed two names for this golfer in the headline. When she first came on the scene, she (and everyone else) spelled her name "Hyeonjoo Ryu." But recently on social media, she started spelling it "Hyunju Yoo." And we figure she knows better than anyone how to translate the Korean spelling of her name into an English spelling.
