Anna Zanusso Ties NCAA Record With 61

Anna Zanusso shots NCAA record 61

Anna Zanusso is an Italian golfer who is a freshman on the Denver University women's golf team. She is also now the co-holder of the NCAA's all-time women's golf record for lowest 18-hole score: 61.

Zanusso shot 61 in her second 18 of a 36-hole day during the NCAA Westbrook Invitational, a tournament hosted by the University of Wisconsin but played at Westbrook Village in Peoria, Arizona.

Zanusso's record-tying score happened on the first day of the two-day tournament. They played two rounds on Day 1, with the 18-hole finale on Feb. 24.

According to Golfweek, Zanusso hit all 18 greens in regulation and needed only 25 putts. She made 11 birdies.

Zanusso's current ranking in the World Amateur Golf Ranking is No. 73. Her career-best ranking as of this writing is 49th. In the last two years, Anna has won five WAGR ranking tournaments, including her first college win late in 2019 at the Golfweek Conference Challenge. Other big victories for the Italian teen include the European Annika Invitational, the Italian Junior Championship and the European Girls Team Championship.

The Denver University athletics department called the 61 "one of the greatest individual performances by a DU athlete in the history of the university in any sport."

Denver coach Lindsay Kuhle said, "She was in the zone, confident and in control. Her routine was very deliberate and purposeful. I couldn’t be more proud of Z to own this record."

In scores, Korean golfer Jeongeun Lee's name often includes the number "6." It appears in the scores as Jeongeun Lee6, for example. Or, sometimes, as Jeongeun6 Lee.

Hyunju Yoo (Hyeonjoo Ryu): Newest Glamour Girl of the KLPGA

First, let's clear up why we've listed two names for this golfer in the headline. When she first came on the scene, she (and everyone else) spelled her name "Hyeonjoo Ryu." But recently on social media, she started spelling it "Hyunju Yoo." And we figure she knows better than anyone how to translate the Korean spelling of her name into an English spelling.
