In Madelene Sagstrom's first tournament on the Symetra Tour in 2016, she finished third. In her second, she finished second.
And in her third? Victory.
Sagstrom, a rookie pro, won the Symetra Tour's Chico's Patty Berg Memorial on Sunday by one stroke. It was a hard-fought win and she had to overcome some serious nerves: Madelene began the final round in the lead, but on the front nine she made five bogeys.
That dropped her out of the lead, but on the back nine she steadied herself and rallied, including birdies on the 15th and 16th holes.
Sagstrom wound up winning by one stroke over Sophia Popov at 9-under 279.
Madelene is originally from Sweden. She won the French International Open in 2011. In college, she was a four-time All-America selection at Louisiana State University, and posted three NCAA victories. She was the SEC's Player of the Year in 2015.
