Kelly Sheehan

Kelly Sheehan was the second contestant eliminated from Big Break Sandals Resorts. Sorry to see her go, she was the only golf professional among the cast members (as opposed to professional golfer). Last week, the Orlando Sentinel did a piece on Kelly that included this:

Whereas the other entrants are in the early stages of a playing career, Sheehan chose to pursue teaching before competition. Based at Reunion Resort, she's the first competitor to hold dual PGA of America and LPGA certification.

"It was exciting to get picked, just in that regard," said Sheehan, 32. "I wanted to uphold our reputation in the golf business. I kind of joked about it to the producers — I need to be Corporate Kelly."

Someone had to be the first to go from "Big Break Sandals Resorts" and, alas, it was Elena Robles. But she will live on through the rest of the Golf Channel series by virtue of her bikini intro in the show's credits.

By the way, one of the show's cast members, Seema Sadekar, is writing a weekly show diary on About.com. Here's her Episode 1 diary.

See the official Big Break Sandals Resorts website for more about Elena.

Rachel Connor

Who holds the all-time 18-hole scoring record on the Duramed Futures Tour? After Thursday, it's 19-year-old Rachel Connor. Rachel - a k a "Chill" - is from England (sorry about the footie, luv - and I also apologize for bringing that up) and is in her rookie season on the Futures Tour.

In the first round of Tate & Lyle Players Championship, Connor shot 29-32. That adds up to 61. And it's the first 61 ever posted in a DFT tournament. The previous tour record was 62, recorded by Erica Blasberg and Sue Ginter-Brooker. Connor's 29 over the front nine also tied the tour record for nine holes. Others shooting 29 over nine on the DFT include Lorena Ochoa, Nicole Castrale, Seon-Hwa Lee and Eunjung Yi. Pretty good company.

In seven previous starts in this, her rookie season, Connor's best finish is a tie for 15th. Clearly, she has the scoring ability to post some high finishes over the remainder of the season.

Check out her Web site.

Cristie Kerr

Congratulations to Cristie Kerr for winning the LPGA State Farm Classic, which finished up on Monday due to weather delays on Sunday. Kerr held off Anna Nordqvist and Ne Yeon Choi to win by won.

It's the 13th career win for Kerr on the LPGA Tour, which is enough to get her onto the list of golfers with the most LPGA wins. Or at least onto this version of that list. Few players have been more consistent than Kerr over the course of her career.

Golf Babes got a ton of traffic yesterday from Finland, and I couldn't figure out why until I saw this post on About.com: Minea Blomqvist returns to the LPGA this week at the State Farm Classic. She's been out since late last year due to pregnancy, and gave birth to a boy a couple months ago. Now it's time for mommy to go back to work.

Jennifer Song

Jennifer Song leads the American team into the 2010 Curtis Cup this week in Massachussetts, taking on Great Britain and Ireland in the every-other-year match for amateur women golfers.

I think the Curtis Cup will be Song's final event as an amateur. She's playing a Futures Tour event soon after, and has also accepted a sponsor invitation into the LPGA Canadian Women's Open.

If the Curtis Cup is Jennifer's amateur swansong, then what an amateur career it's been. In 2009, she won both the US Amateur Public Links and the US Women's Amateur championships, only the second woman ever to claim two USGA championships in the same year. She's been a dominating player at the collegiate level in her two seasons at Southern Cal, and was low am at the 2009 U.S. Women's Open and the 2010 Kraft Nabisco Championship.

English-by-way-of-Germany golfer Florentyna Parker is a first-time winner on the Ladies European Tour today after claiming the ABN AMRO Ladies Open in the Netherlands.

Parker is in her second season playing the LET. In 2009, she finished 24th on the LET money list. Her best career placing prior to the victory was a runner-up at the 2009 Ladies Irish Open. In 2010, Parker - called Flory by friends - had two sixth-place finishes and one more Top 20 among six starts prior to winning in the Netherlands.

As an amateur, Parker was the winner of the French Under 21 Championship, and represented England in the Curtis Cup, Junior Solheim Cup, and Junior Ryder Cup.

Stacy Lewis on Athlete 360

stacy lewis pictures

stacy lewis picturesThe LPGA Tour's Stacy Lewis is one of the athletes featured on a television series called Athlete 360, and Stacy's episode is airing soon.

Athlete 360 focuses on sports medicine and showcases the stories of athletes' treatments - "the new sports medicine show that lets viewers get to meet their favorite athletes, inside and out."

Stacy had corrective surgery for scoliosis that caused her to miss her freshman season at the University of Arkansas. She plays on the LPGA Tour today with five titanium screws and a rod in her spine. Which explains why her Web site has the URL stacysback.com.

Stacy's episode of Athlete 360 airs on regional sports cable networks around the U.S. beginning on June 7. Here's a broadcast schedule.
