Nicole Hage is a member of the LPGA Tour and the Futures Tour in 2009, but she expects to play most of her events on the Futures Tour. In 2008, Nicole split time between the tours, getting into seven events on the LPGA. But her goal is gaining full LPGA playing privileges, and that means focusing first on the Futures Tour money list.
"I decided that this year I was not going to try and do both tours, like I did last year," Nicole said. "... It's not a good idea for me not to commit 100-percent to the Futures. I feel like I could do good things out there this year."
A Top 10 finish on the Futures Tour money list earns a player her LPGA card.
Nicole is in her second year as a professional. She played collegiately at Auburn University, where she was the 2004 SEC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year; a four-time all-conference selection; and a four-time NGCA All-American. She has played her way into the U.S. Women's Open five times.
Nicole's rookie professional season in 2008 had its ups and downs, due in part - as noted above - to trying to split time between two tours. She made the cut in two LPGA events, and on the Futures Tour had a best finish of third.
"I feel like last year, even though there were a lot of bumps in the road, was the best thing that could happen to me," Nicole said. "I learned so much from each experience that I went through."
Nicole spent her offseason working hard on her game, especially her putting. And she likes the results from all that work.
"Going into this year I feel like I have the confidence to compete and that my game is in a good place. ... One of my main goals for 2009 is to put myself into contention every week."
