Brandi Jackson

brandi jackson picturesDid you know that Brandi Jackson once had country music star Vince Gill as her caddie? It's true. That's them together to the right at the 2004 LPGA Franklin American Mortgage Championship, a tournament Gill hosted with his wife Amy Grant.

Here's how it happened: Brandi attended a Gill concert at Clemson University in 1995. She was backstage after the show along with many other fans waiting to get Gill's autograph. Gill, a golf nut, spotted the Ping cap Brandi was wearing and they started talking golf. And Gill wound up telling Brandi that if she ever made it to the professional ranks, he'd caddie for her.

Bet he never thought he'd have to pay up on that promise! But he did. By 2004, Brandi was a member of the LPGA Tour, and when she showed up at Gill's tournament she spotted him at the pro-am party. She reminded Gill of that long-ago chat. Gill remembered, said "I'm a man of my word," and a few days later replaced Brandi's father on the bag for the week.

Laura Diaz

This scan is a page from a Golf Magazine issue in 2005.

Congrats to Laura for making a late charge and playing her way onto the U.S. Solheim Cup team.

Jane Park

Jane has a great smile.

Jane Park is the 2004 U.S. Women's Amateur champion who is now in her first year as a professional. She has non-exempt status on the LPGA Tour this year, and has played a few tournaments on the Futures Tour while also getting into seven LPGA tournaments (with one Top 20 so far). I believe she's going to be a big winner over the course of her career.

Sydnee Michaels

Like a lot of great female junior golfers, Sydnee Michaels played on the boys team in high school. In fact, she was a three-time All-Temecula Valley selection (on the boys all-star team) during her years at Linfield Christian High School in Temecula, Calif.

Now Sydnee is entering her sophomore season on the UCLA women's golf team. As a freshman in the 2006-07 season, Sydnee earned her first collegiate victory. And it was a big one - she won the NCAA East Regional championship. She also made it through qualifying to play in the U.S. Women's Open this summer. In 2006, Sydnee made the cut in another LPGA major, the Kraft Nabisco Championship.

Here's a prediction for you: UCLA will win the women's national championship this coming season (sorry Duke). And probably the year after that, too. The Bruins' Top 3: Tiffany Joh, Sydnee Michaels, Ryann O'Toole. That's as good as any other Top 3 in the country, with the possible exception of Duke. But UCLA will have a very good bottom-of-the-order, too, with the best class of incoming freshmen in all of college golf: U.S. Women's Amateur champion Maria Jose Uribe and top-ranked juniors Stephanie Kono, Brianna Do and Glory Yang.

Thanks to Sydnee for sharing this photo.

Cristie Kerr

Cristie Kerr may have the most misspelled name in golf. Most people think it's "Christie," with the "h" - the normal spelling. But Cristie leaves out the "h." No love for "aitches" from Cristie.

But plenty of love from Golf Babes for Cristie, who, as this is written, is teeing off in the Canadian Women's Open where she is the defending champion.

I think we're overdue for an Anna Rawson pic ... don't you?

Amy Hung

Amy Hung has been a member of the LPGA Tour since 2004, but in 2007 she has already surpassed her previous best mark for earnings. Beginning in 2004, she ranked 118th, 82nd and then 70th last year on the money list, with career-best winnings of $148,157 last year. So far this year she has already made just over $191,000 (currently 47th on the money list). She was fifth at the match play, 10th at the Michelob Ultra Open and 16th in the U.S. Women's Open this year.

Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria is a golf babe? She is now that she's involved as the official spokesperson for a fundraising - and awareness-raising - effort by the Callaway Golf Foundation to fight ovarian cancer. The golf blog Waggle Room explains more about the program here.

You can also watch this short video of Eva discussing her role in helping this Callaway Golf Foundation effort:

Bridget Dwyer

bridget dwyer pictures

You know Bridget Dwyer from "The Big Break VI: Trump National" - the beautiful Hawaii native who finished as runner-up that season in the women's portion of the competition.

Here are a few things you may not know about Bridget:

  • She attended Punahou School, since made famous (on the mainland, anyway; it has always been famous in the islands) by Michelle Wie.

  • She was a three-time All-Scholar selection in college by the National Golf Coaches Association.

  • Which makes sense when you realize that Bridget earned degrees at UCLA in both economics (major) and Japanese (minor).

  • Beginning in high school and continuing today, Bridget works with the Hawaii Teen Leadership Academy, helping often troubled teens find a more positive path in life.

  • Since turning pro after helping UCLA win the national championship in 2004, Bridget has played on the Futures Tour, Women's Canadian Tour, West Coast Tour, and a tour I didn't even know existed, the Chinese Tour.
Bridget is on the Futures Tour this year, with a best finish so far of ninth.
